Benefit of Material to Systems Application
Galvanized steel pipe is an approved material for water service, but it is not a good choice. The pipe is joined together with threaded fittings. Over time, this pipe will rust. The rust can occur at the threaded areas, where the pipe walls are weakened, or inside the pipe. When the thread areas rust, they can leak. When the interior of the pipe rusts, it can restrict the flow of water and reduce water pressure. While this gray, metal pipe is still available, it is rarely used in modern applications.
