Benefit of Material to Systems Application

Copper is the most commonly used material for domestic water systems, particularly for hot water and in smaller pipe diameters. The characteristics of copper tubing make it an excellent and economical choice for use in domestic water systems.  Copper tubing is also biocidal, protecting against the growth of dangerous pathogenic bacteria such as legionella. In systems with large pipe diameters, alternative materials may be more cost-effective.

System Application and Material Usage

Domestic water systems are typically installed with Type L or Type M copper tubing; Type K is reserved for high pressure riser or buried applications where its increased strength and wall thickness are required.

Joints may be soldered, brazed, roll grooved for use with a mechanical coupling, flanged, or other mechanical joining methods.
