A seismic event (earthquake) can cause large movements of suspended piping systems. Earthquake damage to piping and mechanical systems can be extensive, and movement of such systems is a threat to both life and property.  While some piping systems can withstand earthquake movement without damage, the movement of the piping systems can cause damage to other building components and systems. 

Seismic restraint systems limit the movement of piping systems and mechanical equipment during an earthquake. Keeping these systems captive during the seismic event reduces the threat to life and minimizes costs related to equipment down time, replacement or repair after an earthquake. Seismic restraint components are built by manufacturers and installed by contractors according to applicable code, for all types of mechanical systems in areas that are prone to seismic events.
